Activism activities

Bloom-ED is committed to making a lasting impact by drawing attention to various campaigns and programs regarding relationships and sexuality education (RSE). Our efforts are driven by a desire to see evidence-based RSE offered in homes, schools and communities throughout Australia.

Since our inception, we have written various letters, contributed to surveys seeking feedback, or participated in parliamentary enquiries. You can view some of these letters and submissions here.

In the general activism space, please see below for our current projects, or the work of our allies.

Bloom-ED scorecard

The scorecard spotlights how well current national primary and secondary school curricula supports the sexual health and well-being of young people. This work was undertaken in response to the newly revised Australian Curriculum V9 and recent mandates that ensure consent education is provided in an age-appropriate way across all Australian schools (Foundation – Year 10).

#Set The Bar

Body Safety Australia is asking young people to #Set The Bar for what that education should look like. They are asking young people across Australia aged 14 - 22 to tell us:

What sets the bar for great sex education?
What is the most important thing you want your sex education teachers to know?

Show support for Big W

Big W staff were on the receiving end of abuse and harassment for stocking the book ‘Welcome to Sex’. This is a wonderful educational resource to assist parents to discuss sex and relationships with their children when they feel is appropriate. We asked for our members to show for Big W for stocking amazing resources such as this.

Senate submission: Universal access to reproductive healthcare

The Australian Senate Standing Committee for Community Affairs is undertaking an inquiry into universal access to reproductive healthcare. Bloom-ED made a written submission and was also invited to to give evidence at a public hearing.

Position statement on Roe v Wade

Australia's restricted access system
